9 months * Live for Today challenge



Today is the 9 month anniversary of Brigham's accident and 3 months until his 1 year anniversary

In celebration of this anniversary I'm doing a LIVE TODAY CHALLENGE for the next 90 days. Through Brig's accident and recovery I have learned I want to live for today 
because we don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Day One- The Event (may be graphic details for some) + Surgery

Here we are the day after a life changing day in our lives. The trauma + the miracles.  I'm hoping this will be helpful for everyone to access Brigham's updates. Plus, I'm thinking it will be therapeutic for me.  DAY ONE  8/7/2020 THE EVENT Friday morning (guessing 9:40ish)  Brigham was building deck stairs in the Francis' backyard by himself.  Somehow he accidentally cut himself with a skill saw on his right upper leg.  (I will stress this point, he did nothing wrong, we are pretty sure we have figured how it happened and it was a freak accident.) Neighbors came running as they heard his bloodcurdling scream.  Mom Francis (I don't have permission to use first names so I will refer to people as Mom + Dad) looked at her window and saw the blood.  She quickly grabbed towels, leaping off her deck to get to Brigham and immediately applying pressure.  Her husband was home and he ran out to help apply pressure and giving him a priesthood blessing. Fasciotomy healing in pictures *warning* graphic photos

Throw Back 8/14/20 A few hours after being released from the hospital.   We were so happy to have him home and feeling completely incompetent in caring for him.  *WARNING* Graphic photos coming up After the last post I decided it would be cool to see the progress of Brigham's fasciotomy sites in pictures. You know what they say...a picture is worth a thousand words! It is INCREDIBLE to see these changes.   It brings me anxiety remembering the 3 times a week Wound Vac changes. The whole house dreaded it especially Brigham who had to live through the intense pain. The girls would put their ear buds in and turn up the music to drown out the yelling. Ugh!  It was horrible.  How did we survive?  I'm impressed with our strength. I am so proud of Brigham, he has been through some really hard things in the last 5 months. He has been brave and has a good attitude.  Some of these pictures we have never shown because at the time Brigham did not want to see them.  They are pretty graphic,

Impairment Rating

Before I get into Brigham's impairment rating, I wanted to document something new we learned in November. Brigham had been having some new pains near the scar where the cut happened, and we were concerned that maybe this was a sign of a new clot. It is so tricky, for 2 reasons. First, he cannot feel all of his leg and second, clot symptoms are the same as what he feels in that leg every day. We called Sheryl to get her opinion and she said to book an appointment immediately. Luckily, he did not have any new clots and she told Brigham eventually he will learn what symptom means trouble.  For example, one guy always feels like he has the flu when he has a leg clot, so weird. She said it will take time.  Because Brig's injury is so unique, she will always see him if he feels something is off.  What we learned that day was Brigham has a chronic clot in the vein just above his right knee with clot strands extending a few inches past the clot.
